Established in 1967 by legendary primatologist Dian Fossey, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is the world's largest and longest-running organization dedicated entirely to gorilla conservation. Their status has improved from Critically Endangered to Endangered, moving them one step further away from extinction, and the Fossey Fund has extended their conservation efforts to include the critically endangered Grauer’s gorillas in the eastern DRC. Grauer’s gorillas have lost more than 60% of their population in recent decades and were recently included in the IUCN’s list of the 25 most endangered primates.
